The Original Madras Trading Company was founded in the early 1970s when a trunk full of Madras check was brought to New York.
We still operate from the same office today and supply many of the best-known brands in the United States.
We source our fabrics and products from South India through our New York office.
The definition of Madras check is that it is 100% cotton, yarn-dyed, plain weave, with an uneven pattern of at least two colours, and most importantly, is made from Indian cotton woven in Madras.
Originally, and still today, the finest Madras fabrics are hand woven.
